Frequently Asked Questions

We’ve answered some of the most common questions we receive from architects, builders and homeowners to help you understand how our electrical design process works.

1. What information do you need to start a project?
We typically need architectural GA plans (PDF + DWG if available), a brief outline of the project, and any known preferences for lighting, power, or smart home systems.
If the design is still at an early stage, we can assist with developing the electrical brief.

2. At what stage should architects involve you?
Ideally from RIBA Stage 2–3, when layouts and concepts are being developed.
Early involvement reduces redesign, improves coordination and prevents on-site issues.

3. Do you work directly with homeowners?
Yes, although our primary clients are architects and builders.
Homeowner projects are taken on a case-by-case basis, provided architectural plans are available, and the project scope is clear.

4. Do you provide installation services or certification?
No — we are a design-only practice.
We do not carry out electrical installation or certification.
All drawings and notes are created to support contractors during installation.

5. What deliverables will we receive?
Depending on the scope, you may receive:
• Lighting layouts
• Power layouts
• Circuit schedules
• Consumer unit schedules
• Indictive Cable routing and zoning notes
• Technical design notes
• Tender/pricing support documentation

Everything is supplied in a clear, coordinated package ready for contractors and planning submissions.

6. How long does an electrical design package take?
Typical timeframes:
• Small extensions: 3–5 working days
• Renovations or medium-sized homes: 5–10 working days
• New-build homes: 10–15 working days

Time varies based on complexity and level of coordination required.

7. Can you help with BS 7671, Part P and Building Regulations compliance?
Yes — all design work is aligned with:
BS 7671 (18th Edition)
Part P requirements
• Building Regulations relevant to electrical works

We also provide clear notes to help ensure compliance during contractor installation.

8. Do you offer on-site visits?
Yes, when required, but this is outside the scope of the packages and will be charged on a case-by-case basis.

Typical reasons include:
• Reviewing existing electrical conditions
• Complex rewires
• Builder coordination
• Final verification of design requirements

Travel costs may apply depending on the project location.

9. Do you provide load calculations and cable sizing?
Yes — We will provide PDFs only, live or editable documents will not be provided.

All circuit designs include PDFs of:
• Load calculations
• Diversity considerations
• Cable sizing aligned with BS 7671
• Consumer unit scheduling

This ensures a safe, compliant and properly coordinated design.

10. How do we begin a project with you?
You can begin a project through the website or by contacting us at:
